Google Sheets
Unlike Make.com and Slack (which trigger calls), Google Sheets is an agent tool. Connect it once per workspace via OAuth2, then attach it to an agent so it can read from or write to a spreadsheet mid-call.
Connecting
From Integrations, connect Google Sheets. This uses a custom OAuth flow scoped specifically to the Sheets API (kept separate from Google Calendar's connection, which uses a different scope).
Configuring the tool
When attaching Google Sheets to an agent, configure:
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
spreadsheet_id | Yes | The spreadsheet ID from its URL. |
action | No | read_rows (default), append_row, update_cell, or clear_range. |
sheet_name | No | Restricts the tool to one sheet/tab within the spreadsheet. |
range | No | Default range for read_rows, e.g. A1:Z1000. |
Actions
| Action | What it does | Arguments the agent supplies |
|---|---|---|
read_rows | Reads a range and returns it as rows | range (optional, overrides config), sheet_name (optional) |
append_row | Appends a new row | values: list of cell values |
update_cell | Writes a single cell | cell (e.g. B3), value |
clear_range | Clears a range | range |
The agent decides which arguments to pass at call time based on the conversation. For example, appending a lead captured during the call, or reading a pricing table to answer a question.
Token refresh
Access tokens are refreshed automatically a few minutes before they expire. If refresh ever fails (e.g. the grant was revoked from the Google account side), the tool returns a message asking the user to reconnect rather than failing silently.
